The benefits of spending time on your own

Being left alone is not for everyone, but are you among those who hate being left alone and are constantly looking for company? Or are you the type of person who loves their ‘me’ time? Remember, being alone and being lonely are two completely different things. Those who enjoy being left alone will never feel lonely and will always enjoy their own company as they prefer spending time on their own.

Here are some reasons as to why it’s good to spend time on your own…

  1. Recharge

We often try to make people around us comfortable and happy by helping them work through their feelings which can be extremely exhausting on your emotional health. When friends decide to overshare their feelings, they usually run to you because they consider you a safe space without knowing how draining it can be for you. When you decide to spend time alone and break constant interaction with others, it helps you clear your head and lets you recharge which makes you feel better and more relaxed.

  1. Do what you want to do

When you spend time with others – friends or family, you’re often compromising your time, energy and emotions. There is always a chance that you may not want to give in to others wishes, however, you end up sucking it up and just going with it. Once again, it becomes exhausting! When you’re on your own, you get to decide what you want to do and when you want to do it.

  1. Think & reflect

With life moving at a quick pace, it does not give us a chance to stop, think and reflect. When you’re alone, you have an opportunity to focus on yourself and think about what your future plans are and which direction you want to move in.

  1. Self-reliant

Spending time on your own allows you to become independent. We often seek opinions from friends or family, for some of the simplest things before we make decisions. There are times when this is necessary but there are also times when it’s possible to act without consulting others. Maximise the opportunity to make decisions on your own. It’s difficult at first but you’ll soon become self-reliant.

  1. Absence makes the heart grow fonder

When you regularly spend time on your own, it becomes more enjoyable to spend time with others, as you’ve given yourself more time and space to miss their company.

  1. No pressure

The benefit of being alone is that you can take your own time to become involved in activities that you really enjoy with no pressure as to how well you perform. It’s definitely a simple pleasure!

  1. Explore

We have all heard the saying “the world is your oyster” and it is! The possibilities are endless! When spending time on your own, you can explore the possibilities of your life. Allow your mind to wander and live your life to the fullest. Take the time to really think about what would make your life worth living.

We understand that this may not be for everyone but we hope this list makes you see the benefit of spending and enjoying time on your own. Remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder ;). b
