The abortion

By Uahomo Courage, 28, KwaZulu-Natal

There is no denying that whenever the youth of my generation comes across the word “abortion”, what readily comes to mind is the idea of a lady visiting the hospital just to terminate an unwanted pregnancy or achieving the same results through some sort of unorthodox means. This act is usually described by our society as cruel and inhumane. But hey, can you pause for a minute, take a deep breath and take a sip off your cold glass of juice while you embark with me on this journey to explore my definition of the term “the abortion”.

Many a time, we draw up big plans and get very excited about the things that we want to do with our lives and the kind of people that our parents pray and hope that we will eventually grow up to become. But a few months or years down the line, things happen… life changes, plans are cut short, circumstances beyond our control forces us to back down on the big dreams we once envisaged and embrace what life has thrown at us. Now, that is a kind of abortion.

Another cause of abortion is procrastination. A wise man once said that procrastination is the enemy of success. So, I ask “why leave for tomorrow the things that you can do today”?  As youth, we are sometimes tempted to believe that we have got more than enough time to achieve our dreams, hence we cultivate the habit of procrastination and this leaves us with so many tasks pending at the end of the day. And work that is not done before it’s due can end up being terminated or aborted in the long run.

So, why not enroll for that course today? Why not learn a new skill today? Why not quit that bad habit today? Why not pursue that big dream today? Let’s stop waiting for tomorrow because it’s never ever going come. Always learn to begin “today” in other words to avoid the abortion.

I think corruption is one of the main cause of abortion, simple because the resources end up not reaching the poor livelihood, and young women end up exposed in suger-dadies to find money to support their needs, and ending up falling perngnent unwantedly, and end uping in abortion.

While this is a good point, when you read the entire post, you see that the ‘abortion’ is a metaphor for giving up on your dreams when things don’t go according to plan.
