How to make money during the pandemic

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! And life sure gave us all the lemons in the world since 2020. Finances have been a struggle for many South Africans ever since we entered a hard lockdown towards the end of March 2020. It’s also difficult to believe that we are now on Day 313 of lockdown – time flies when you’re… sitting at home?

On a serious note, the past few months have been stressful and incredibly devastating. Jobs were lost and as a consequence, many of us have been scrambling to find new sources of income. If you are one of those people that are looking for sources of income to keep you going for a while, you’re in luck. There are actually plenty of ways to make money during the pandemic.

Here are a few ways to make money during the current Covid-19 pandemic…

  1. Sell it!

An easy way to earn some quick cash is by selling your stuff. Consider selling anything you haven’t used in over a year. You can also create stuff if you’re a crafty individual – jewellery, origami, macrame and so on.

  1. Little tasks

If you live around elderly folk and you’re able-bodied you can get a job by assisting them. Offer to purchase groceries for them and get paid a fee when you complete the task. We obviously suggest you do this as safely as possible.

  1. Freelance jobs

There are many freelance websites on the internet, which is great! All you have to do is set up a profile with your skills and strengths, and you may find a customer in your inbox! From writing to illustration to transcriptions to translations, the options are endless!

  1. Pet walking

If you’re an animal person, this is perfect! While many people are still working from home, they rarely have time to walk their pets. This is a perfect opportunity to make some money during the week.

  1. Baking and cooking

If you’re good in the kitchen, then this is a good option for you. Start selling your home cooked/baked goods for a fee. Start with your neighbours and let the word of your new business venture spread!

  1. Virtual lessons

Virtual lessons can be done for anything – academia, dancing, painting, cooking. Once again, the options are endless. This is also probably the safest way to make money since you’re not interacting with anyone face to face. Host your own class for a small fee and enjoy!

  1. Social media

A great tool to help you make money is by using social media. Start by creating a profile relating to either your craft, cooking or idea/s. This helps the information spread to a wider audience.

These are many other ways to make money during the pandemic, so make sure to do your research and don’t be afraid to try something different. Who knows, you may enjoy it 😊
