Four ways to become more adaptable to change

The world can appear to be a very scary and complicated place at times, especially considering the constant changes that have been happening as of recent. Many people aren’t afraid of big changes, and that’s completely okay, but there are many of us who are actively seeing these changes take place and we’re constantly wondering, ‘will I fit in?’

As the saying ‘why fit in when you were born to stand out’ may be applicable for certain aspects in life, but in the face of complexity and change, shifting your mind-set is the only way to deal and cope with the changes that come your way.

Here are 4 ways to become more adaptable to change…

  1. Always ask questions

Most of us often ask questions that will give us a direct answer or solution. In complex situations, being open to different possibilities and opportunities is key. In life, with lots of changing aspects approaching, finding a direct solution is likely to leave you with a solution that may have worked in the past but not now. Different questions can open you up to new possibilities and you will soon become more flexible with whatever life throws at you.

  1. Accept multiple perspectives

We often think we have taken various perspectives into consideration because that’s what we want to think. The truth is, we usually look for the perspective we want or want to hear from people. When dealing with a huge change in your life, the various perspectives you receive will allow you to make a better decision or choice.

  1. Look at the bigger picture

In a complex system, everything moves fast along with interrelated segments. Most of the time, our inclination is to pull things apart and solve each segment on its own. However, when events change quickly, you need to take a step back and look at how every segment plays an important role in the outcome.

  1. Keep learning

Life will always throw curveballs and you need to be able to act on these sudden curveballs. Instead of looking at the final destination, learn more about what’s currently in front of you. Thriving in complexity requires a whole new way of looking at the world and acting within it. As you shift your mind-set, amazing things can happen.

You don’t get better at dealing with complex changes but soon you will begin to enjoy dealing with them in this fast-paced world if you digest the advice above.
