Respecting the vessel that carries you
When you think of your body do you think of it as a vessel you operate? A really helpful way to think about your body is the way you would think about a company. Although the job descriptions may differ, the principles are the same. Many things have to happen in order for the personal company to work. It needs income, but not too much. It needs to be clean, so cleaning services need to be arranged. It needs problem solving skills which means it needs a healthy psyche and good consultants.
Our bodies are a full-time job. Unfortunately, it’s not a job someone else can do. It’s not a job that you can just resign from and find another. It is an all-encompassing job and takes years and years of practice and even then, it won’t be done perfectly, however, that’s not to say that you can’t be good at it.
Here are a few tips to make sure your company isn’t in the red…
- Choose yourself everyday
This may sound selfish but choosing yourself in the morning, every morning, ensures that in the craziness of the day you have a small voice that keeps you tuned into the conference calls happening in your body and mind. Although you may not act on them immediately, you can put a pin in it and get back to it later. A scenario of this could be a sudden feeling of rejection that makes you feel worthless. Instead of acting out, you can put a mental note on the feeling and dissect it in your own time. Which brings us to point number 2.
- There’s no such thing as no time for yourself, make time for yourself!
Having time to decompress from your day and process it makes unwinding a healthy habit. We are not machines; we need time to process and bring calmness to ourselves. This can be a 20-minute bath or a run anything that pulls you away from distractions and closer to your thoughts and yourself.
- Sleep, eat, exercise – Repeat!
Although these are the very basics, they are worth a million contributions made to your job, family or friends. If your quality of sleep improves so does your productivity. The chemicals released during and after exercise is second to none, it may be a painful journey but in the long run it is one of the best stress relievers and rush of happiness. Food is the fuel of our companies. Good quality and healthy foods make the world of difference to every aspect of our ability to perform.
- Invest in people who invest in you
Although it might sound harsh, people who suck your time and energy are not bringing anything to your life. Any form of relationship is characterised by a give and take, a push and pull. Without this motion one of the parties involved will suffer. Choose people who choose you.
Although each of these points can be expanded on, we suggest just trying something small everyday that maintains your company. Life is challenging, but if the company carrying you around is taken care of everything becomes a little easier and everyday you get a little better.
