My name is Valpre, a law student at the University of South Africa. Yoh! I do not know where to even start. Being a Unisan is a full-time job that requires all your time, energy and patience. I did not know what I was getting myself into when I applied to study at Unisa, but I’m glad I did, because I am now able to do quite a lot of things independently. I really would have loved to be a part of one of the traditional varsities in South Africa but I did not qualify and Unisa gave me a chance, which I am grateful for.
Like I said, being a Unisan is a full-time job. You’re always online to check for updates, sometimes the system goes down even when you have an assignment that’s due for submission – it’s a nightmare! Sometimes I even wonder how those who have jobs handle it, because wow, the pressure is just too much to handle. I know most of you can relate, I mean, being a varsity student comes with a whole lot of things, some we can handle but some we can’t.
Before the pandemic, I’d go to campus almost every day (this made me feel like I’m a full-time student) besides, I do not work, so why not? Trust me, there are activities offered on campus that I wasn’t aware of and I bet most of my fellow mates don’t know about them. Well, if you don’t go to campus, you wouldn’t know, of course! We have study groups, discussion sessions, there are free computer lessons, free French lessons, as well as sports.
I’d advise any matriculant out there to think twice when applying to any university, you should know as much information as possible and when it comes to choosing a course, please do it wisely!
Thank you for this. I really wish there was more information about UNISA and that their communications team did more like how other institutions do.
